Passengers on Flight 500 from Indianapolis to Paris got more than they bargained for when an "unruly passenger" caused the pilot to make an emergency landing in Detroit on Thursday just after 6 p.m. EDT according to a federal complaint.
Only 40 minutes after Ian Robert James Morin boarded flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport he allegedly began "yelling and acting erratically" according to authorities. Authorities say that even though the flight crew tried to calm Morin he refused to comply with any of their demands.
Morin then allegedly gives a flight attendant an open hand slap to the throat! He then allegedly tries to hit the flight attendant a second time but pukes before he can make contact! Talk about a nasty fight!
Spokeswoman for Michigan Wayne County Airport, Lisa Gass, confirmed the incident to USA Today via email writing, “On Thursday evening, a Delta flight from Indianapolis to Paris was diverted to Detroit Metropolitan Airport due to a disruptive passenger."
She goes on to write, "Security personnel on board were able to restrain the man until the aircraft landed. The man was taken into custody. The investigation was turned over to the FBI.”
Unfortunately this diversion caused a 14 hour delay to the passengers. I bet those passengers did not expect to be spending the night in Detroit but at least they didn't have to pay for it. Delta apologized to the passengers for any inconvenience. I don't think this guy will be flying anywhere else anytime soon.
